The Museum of the Polish Army (Muzeum Wojska Polskiego) seemed interesting for my museum project, because of the prominent role played by paintings in the construction of the exhibition. I a way one might see it as a prototype of sorts of contemporary virtual exhibitions, who address our imagination through an evocative image rather than contact with an authentic object. What interested me most in this series, were moments of tension, when the images constructed in and through that space oscillate between illusion and its suspension. At the same time, the exhibit is a lesson in the history of art. It is hard not to notice that the deeper we progress into the twentieth century, the less good Polish painters were interested in military themes.
